Burcon NutraScience Corp. has completed the construction of its new semi-works plant in Winnipeg for its Peazazz® pea protein. The product will be introduced at the upcoming IFT 2013 Expo in Chicago.
The semi-works plant utilizes commercial-scale equipment and will produce large quantities of pea protein. This enables food and beverage makers to conduct full-scale, real-world market evaluations of Peazazz in their consumer products. After a startup and commissioning phase, the company expects to begin production of significant quantities of Peazazz. Shipments will occur under material transfer agreements (MTAs) recently announced and others expected to be signed. The list includes major food and beverage makers, suppliers, and potential industry production and sales partners. Burcon will showcase Peazazz at the IFT Expo, offering attendees beverage samples fortified with the pea protein. Derived from field peas, Peazazz features a clean flavor, exceptional solubility, and nutritional value. It is ideal for use in various food, beverage, and nutritional products. Applications include: – Sports nutrition beverages – Fruit juice blends – Fortified waters – Dairy alternative products – Powdered beverage mixes – Snacks, cereals, and diet products – Gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan food products Compared to other plant-based proteins, pea proteins are hypoallergenic and more environmentally sustainable.
